Growth At Last
The biggest transformation in decades is on the cards.
Adrian Hardy, Owner-Director of Marketing Moves, the only boutique marketing recruitment agency for roles in the IT/Telecoms sector, commented on the macroeconomic shift from debt and consumption, to savings and export, and reiterated the fact that the new, wider economy will also bring microeconomic changes too: different lifestyles and different jobs in different places. The economic crisis and the recession have put a very finite end to the old economic model.
‘Here’s a good example,’ said Adrian, ‘there’s nothing traditional about what the IT/Telecoms sector is looking for these days. We’ve been asked to find marketing professionals who are prepared to flex their thinking and their approach to marketing, in some cases, their lifestyles too. We’re currently offering jobs that are partially based in Estonia or roles based in San Francisco that require special marketers, ones that have global expertise but who are prepared to significantly change their lifestyle to take advantage of new sector opportunities.
He continues, ‘Innovation drives productivity and productivity drives real incomes. This sector is at the forefront of innovation and continues to be so.’
Between 1996 and 2009 productivity grew by 2.7% a year as technologies that had been developed in previous decades, from personal computers to fibre optics, found their way into the mainstream.
Martin Baily of the Brookings Institution is optimistic, saying that productivity could grow by an average of 2.5%, just under ‘boom time figures’, because the wave of technology adoption that fuelled productivity growth between 1996 and 2008 may still have further to run.
Adrian finishes by saying, ‘It’s the perfect time to catch the upward curve as businesses pull out of the recession and move towards growth. There’s never been a better time for candidates to craft their CV or to demonstrate their fresh approach to marketing and their flexible approach to a new lifestyle.’
